Story: Very windy and heavy rain rolled in, only saw a few deer through the afternoon, but we were sheltered from the rain so we stayed out.  Around 6PM a nice 9 point buck stepped out about 175 yards down the path and ducked back into the brush.  Carson got into position anticipating where the buck would step back out into the field.  It seemed like forever, and we were wondering if the buck wandered off in a different direction in the brush, but eventually around 6:30PM he finally stepped out into the field about 100 yards away, quartering towards us.  Carson is proficient with the shotgun out to 100 yards, but I suspected the buck would walk out and turn towards a path that they always follow so I had him wait for a nice broadside shot.  After a few minutes of checking the field out, the buck did turn and gave Carson a perfect broadside shot about 80 yards out.  Carson’s shot was perfectly place and the buck only made it about 10 yards into the brush.  The rain, still downpouring, didn’t damper our spirits and excitement of his first deer!
